Paris Jazz

Paris and jazz have entertained a longstanding love story, since Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli pioneered in 1934 when they created the the Quintette du Hot Club de France. Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Didier Lockwood, and so many other legends danced the nights in St Germain des près, or on the right bank at the Club des Lombard or The New Morning.

But this is about now, not some distant past to get nostalgic about. The Jazz scene is quite active, and a nice way to walk your way through the night ambiance of the city. Here are our favorites clubs.

  • The New Morning, 7-9 Rue des Petites Écuries, 75010
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers inaugurated the place in 1981. Since then Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Didier Lockwood and of course Archie Sheep performed there.
  • Duc des Lombards, 42 rue des Lombards, 75001
    An institution since 1984.
  • Sunset/Sunside Jazz Club, 60 Rue des Lombards, 75001
Next to the Duc des Lombards.
  • Caveau de la Huchette, 5, rue de la Huchette, 75005
This one has been around since 1954, in 16th century basement. It’s impossible to name all the stars who performed there : Sidney Bechet, Claude Bolling, Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers, Manu Dibango, Lionel Hampton, Benny Vasseur and so many others.
  • Papa jazz club, 3 Rue Saint-Benoît, 75006
Where you can enjoy both good jazz and good brasserie food.

You can easily walk to each of these places.
