Founded by Raymond Bertillon the famous Ice maker is now managed by the Chauvin family, still at an artisanal scale, despite an enlarged network of resellers. As a matter of fact, they are closed one month each summer to prepare the products for the next season. With very little motivation, it’s quite easy to fit Berthillon on the way to Le Marais, Notre Dame, or la Montagne Sainte Genevieve, or just for an evening stroll along the Seine.

Berthillon would make it into the top ten, according to Nathaniel Lande, author with his father of “The Ten Best of Everything, The Ultimate Guide for Travelers”, as reported in an 2007 Boston Globe article.

Of course you can have any flavor you like, provided you try the Chocolate sorbet. And maybe the Pamplemousse Rose (pink grapefruit) also. And also maybe … ok let’s stop this right there!

Now, if you are in despair, or in great urgency, this is the time to mention that Le Café Tiquetonne, 62 rue Tiquetonne (100m out of your place), has a great selection of Berthillon’s flavors. And yes, they usually have Chocolate sorbet.
