The French tycoon is the founder of a Luxury empire under the Kering Holding company (Gucci, Yves St Laurent, Balenciaga, Boucheron are some of the best knows brands under Kering’s umbrella). He has been competing with Bernard Arnauld (LVMH CEO) for decades over the luxury goods leading position, and also as an art patron.
As much as Arnauld (ranked #1) is well ahead in term of Group revenue and wealth, Pinault (ranked #3) has open three museums to stage his contemporary art collection. After the Palazzo Grassi and the Dogana, both in Venezia, it was the turn, in 2021 of the Bourse du Commerce, 5 mn away from your home.
Architect Tadao Ando did an incredible job of transforming a dull administrative interior into a jewel dedicated to contemporary art. If not fully convinced by the exbibits, which cas be quite austere, it is worth a visit if only for Ando’s work.
When we write “5mn walk”, this not a figure of speech: this new museum is indeed at the end of the street.
